Ketch - A - Totem
During a business trip to Ketchikan, Alaska, I came across this older totem. Ketchikan is the oldest city in Alaska, and is known for totems around the area. This totem was full of history and seemed to have a presence of its own.
Lily of the Nile
Summertime bloom of Lily of the Nile
Moth Feeding I
Post twilight brings out these formidable moths for feeding. The moth was flitting about quite similar to that of a hummingbird.
Himalayan Poppy
Himalayan Poppies are a challenge to grow. It is difficult to find one fully extended and proportional. This example is from the Anchorage Botanical Garden. I have never seen as much blue foliage as in Alaska.
Autumn Rain
Throughout Alaska one will see plenty of color signaling the end of summer and a reminder winter is just around the corner.
Backyard Shroom
Every year, I look forward to these mushrooms proceed through their relatively short cycle.
Foliage Imagery
Autumn and the end of this vegetation's existence is climaxing.
Geographic Abstract
Looking out the window on final approach presented this surreal scene of the Juneau wetlands.
Summertime Color
Many establishments provide a little landscaping about their exterior. This colorful grouping is thriving in the short, intense growing season.
Flowering Cabbage... er Kale?
Growing season in Alaska is short... therefore, fast & furious! The botanical garden in Anchorage offers a visual feast.
French Vintage
France produces some mighty fine wines. This vine has been around for a while... located in the Chateauneuf region of France. I joined some friends and did a barge/bicycle trip throughout south central France.
Denali Autumn Ablaze
Autumn in Denali is a treat. The colors, animals in motion, all on a mission. Autumn is spectacular, yet, short-lived.
Mt. McKinley I
When Mt. McKinley is visible, taking time to enjoy the view is indeed pleasurable. The "Mountain" is shrouded in clouds approximately eighty percent of the time. This image is from the "south" view site, which never seems to offer the same view.
Hawaii II
Tranquil Waterfall This waterfall and pool would make any backyard the envy of your neighborhood.
Prince William Sound
Trees in the Shroud Prince William Sound, Valdez, Alaska. The Sound offers many viewing opportunities; animals, fish, glaciers, glacier calving, waterfalls, foliage. This area was effected by the Exxon spill back in 1989, some residual exists.
Midday at the Coast
A day at the beach, what can ya say? South end of Laguna Beach provided this pleasant locale. I lived across the street from this place; Montage Resort, in Laguna Beach, California. Invariably, if I didn't take my camera to the beach, I would miss a pretty good photo op.
Kennecott Copper Mine I
The logistics and effort to establish the operation of Kennecott Copper Mine is truly impressive. Throughout its operation, employees worked 364 days a year, July 4th was the only day off for the year... If you ever get a chance to check it out, it is worth the effort!
Laguna Beach Sunset I
Along the south end of Laguna Beach off the Pacific Coast Highway is Montage Resort. The public has complete access to the beautiful beach and walkways.
Grazing in the Fall
Solitary caribou grazes on foliage to prepare for the oncoming harsh winter. Fall presents a plethora of color, even if is rather short in duration. This "Bou" was located in Denali National Park.
